Arkenstone
Stone treasured by the Dwarves. It was large and white, and had its own natural glow. It was originally found by Thrain I in the Lonely Mountain. When they were forced out of their home in 2770 by Smaug, they were unable to keep their Arkenstone. Smaug adored the Arkenstone and made it part of his armor. In 2941, Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakesheild came with a company of Dwarves to retrieve the Arkenstone and, more importantly, the Lonely Mountain. When Bilbo got into Smaug's cave, he stole the Arkenstone to prove his burglary skills successful. He did not tell Thorin of this. After all, Thorin had said that, if the mission was successful, Bilbo could have his share of the treasure. Though Thorin was angered and Elves and Dalemen entered the Lonely Mountain seeking treasure. Fighting took place, and Bilbo gave the Arkenstone to Bard so he could make a reasonable claim. Thorin was only angered more and he almost sent Bilbo away. He sent for aid and Dain II Ironfoot armed a company of Dwarves to march to the Lonely Mountain. Orcs and Wargs suddenly attacked the three forces and they united together in the Battle of Five Armies. Though the battle was won, Thorin died and was buried in the Mountin with his Arkenstone.
