Arod
Legolas riding Arod in the New Line film
Horse of Legolas in Rohan. Arod was ridden by an unnamed rider who was shot and killed on February 19, 3019 of the Third Age. Eomer took Arod and lent him to Legolas, who rode him to Edoras. Arod was ridden quite easily by Legolas, but not as easily by Gimli, who clung to Legolas's back. They rode with Aragorn in search of the hobbits Pippin and Merry. They met Gandalf who assured them they hobbits were fine. Later, Arod and Aragorn's horse, Hasufeld, ran away to welcome their King, Shadowfax, who was Gandalf's horse. They returned with Shadowfax the next day. Arod then rode Legolas and Gimli to Edoras, and through the Paths of the Dead. Arod helped celebrate King Theoden's life at his burial after the Battle of Pelennor Fields.
