Emeldir
Mother of Beren Erchamion; wife to Barahir. Emeldir was born in year 406 of the First Age. She was the daughter of another man named Beren. Emeldir also had two younger siblings whose names are not known.
Emeldir married Barahir after he became Lord of the House of Beor. Emeldir had their son Beren in 432. Their family lived in Dorthonion.
In 455, Morgoth attacked Dorthonion in the Battle of Sudden Flame. He released rivers of fire from his fortress of Angband and he also sent forth great armies of Orcs and Balrogs led by the dragon Glaurung. This time he had allied himself with Sauron. Emeldir wanted to fight, but Barahir ordered her to lead the woman and children out of Dorthonion. In 456, Emeldir led the woman and children into the Forest of Brethil.
Emeldir's ultimate fate is unknown. It is known that her son Beren became a legendary figure of the elder days, and it is apparent that after Barahir was killed in 460, Emeldir did not see her son again.
