Gothmog
Gothmog battling Ecthelion of the Fountain
Balrog who was the second most trusted servant of Morgoth only to Sauron. Gothmog was the lord of the Balrogs. He carried a fiery whip with him wherever he went as well as a dark black axe that killed many across Middle-Earth and Beleriand. Gothmog killed Feanor at Dagor-nuin-Giliath at the very beginning of the First Age. He continued to work as a general in Anband through the Glorious Battle, the Battle of Sudden Flame, and the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. Gothmog made an appearance in each of these battles. In the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, Gothmog fought Fingon. At first, he had troubles. But then, his assistant Balrog through a bolt of fire and Fingon and Gothmog took down the Elven King. In Gondolin, at its fall, Gothmog led a massive army into the city. He fought Ecthelion of the Fountain and, when prepared to strike him, Ecthelion stabbed Gothmog and the fell off a cliff into a river, where they both drowned. Morgoth was weakened by Gothmog's loss.
