Guard of the Citadel
The Guards of the Citadel were men of Minas Tirith who were the last defense of the White Tree and the King. They stood with spears in front of the King's palace in times of war. Since they had such an important job, great respect was given to them, even by the King and those of higher rank. While on duty, the Guards of the Citadel rarely moved. Only several Guards are known, including Beregond, a member of the Third Company of Guards. The Companies were small groups of guards with storehouses, mess halls, and butteries. They wore mithril armor. The Companies were not aloud to leave the Citadel. They were payed much, though. Beregond left his place, but King Aragorn did not punish him for that, for he was only trying to save Faramir.
