Cultural Information and History
King of the Haradrim by Kyle Anderson
The Haradrim were from the far south of Middle Earth. They worshipped great beasts called Oliphaunts, which they rode to battle on. The Numenoreans settled in Harad and taught much to the Haradrim. At first, the two cultures got along. But then, when the Numenoreans began forming kingdoms and claiming land, the Hadradrim grew angry. They allied themselves with Sauron through anger. In the Battle of the Last Alliance, the Haradrim were led by Fuinur and Herumor. Sauron was defeated and the Ring of Power was taken by Isildur. Haradrim continued to serve Sauron until the bitter end. They tracked Gondorians with wicked eastmen and killed them throughout the Third Age. In the Battle of Pelennor Fields, they sent all of their forces to Mordor to fight with Sauron. Though they were defeated, the Haradrim fought hard and killed many. While many wicked men surrendered at the Battle at the Black Gate, the Haradrim kept fighting, and finally were defeated. The Haradrim's fate is not known.
