Master of Lake-Town
Mayor, so to speak, of the men of the Lake-Town. The Master of Lake-Town, or Esgorath, was chosen by the elders to rule over the town. He was never a warrior, but a merchant and busyness man. He was to trade with other cultures for either money or valued items. The Masters were once allied with the dwarves, who lived in the Lonely Mountain. When they were forced out by Smaug, the masters did not much care, for they were very conservative. Thorin Oakenshield stumbled upon the Lake-Town with his company of dwarves and Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit. Thorin claimed to be a descendant of those dwarves. He later proved he was one of those dwarves. But the Master was enraged because the dwarves were expensive guests. So, the company left for the Lonely Mountain. After the hero Bard killed Smaug and was crowned King of Dale, it was revealed that Smaug had jewelry from the Mountain that had once belonged to Dwarves. He marched up the Mountain and claimed it, but Thorin already had. Elves came to assist him, but orcs attacked and the battle of five armies erupted: Elves, men, and dwarves v.s. orcs and wolves. Finally the Dalemen returned to Lake-Town and lived in peace until Easterling attacked and killed many in the Battle of Dale. After that and the devistation that followed, the men lived in peace.
