Nauglamir
Beautiful, valuable, and gold necklace of the dwarven folk of the First Age. Nauglamir was created circa year 50 of the First Age. It was owned by Finrod of Nargothrond, who valued it greatly. In 495, Glaurung attacked and claimed the Nauglamir. He died in 499 and evil Petty-dwarves including Mim claimed Nargothrond. Hurin took over at the beginning of the next century and killed Mim and the last of the Petty-dwarves. He took the Nauglamir to Doriath and brought it before King Thingol, who he blamed for the loss of his son Turin. Thingol and his wife Melian told him that he was not responsible. Hurin left the Nauglamir with Thingol and went to commit suicide. Thingol happily and greedily took the Nauglamir and put his Silmaril inside it and wore it. Nearby dwarves grew angry that the necklace that had been created by dwarves was in the possession of an elf. So, they formed a great army to march to Doriath. Thingol was very stubborn and greedy and did not let the dwarves have their Nauglamir. The dwarf army killed Thingol and took the necklace with the Silmaril. Elves chased them and brought back the Nauglamir. In response to this, enraged dwarves sent more forces to Doriath and a great battle took place. Though most died, the dwarves took hold of the treasure and marched almost all the way back to their mountain mines when a host of elves and Edain attacked. Beren and Dior led their forces. They successfully ambushed the dwarf armies and Beren took the bloody Nauglamir and, after washing it, brought it to his wife Luthien. Dior inherited the Nauglamir and was slain in Doriath by the attacking Sons of Feanor. His daughter Elwing was a child at the time, but she still inherited the Nauglamir with the Silmaril. She moved to the Havens of Sirion, which was later attacked by the Sons of Feanor, who greatly desired the Silmaril. Elwing escaped into the sea and found her husband Earendil on his ship Vingilot. She may have lost the Nauglamir at sea, but it is known that she kept the Silmaril for, once at her husband's ship, the two used it reach the Undying Lands.
