Rangers of Ithilien
Rangers in the New Line film
Guards of the eastern border of Gondor and Mordor. These Gondorians tracked enemies in the Nomans land and other eastern places and killed enemy forces, which were usually extreme forces of Haradrim. These rangers camped in the secret hiding place in Henneth Annun, a passage behind a great waterfall. These rangers were fully-armed with bows and arrows. They always felt threatened by Mordor and eventually abandoned Ithilien. During the War of the Ring, Captain Faramir, prince of Gondor (son of Denethor II) led his armies to kill off the Haradrim, who traveled in dense groups to Mordor. They killed them, and they came across Frodo Baggins, Sam Gamgee, and Gollum. The three ventured to Mordor to destroy the Ring and stop all evil. Faramir was tempted by the Ring, but eventually let his prisoners go. Denethor was enraged, but Faramir knew he did right. Later, at the Battle at the Black Gate, Rangers slew Easterlings and orcs, who planned on killing a Host of the West. The West won, and Aragorn was crowned King of Gondor and Arnor. He gave former rangers high positions, like Faramir was named Prince of Ithilien.
