Amdír
King of Lothlorien in the late Second Age. Amdir was an Elf of Sindarin origin. He or his ancestors are thought to have lived in Beleriand during the First Age, but moved east after its destruction during the War of Wrath. Amdir was the father of Amroth. Amdir was the leader of a predominately Silvan Elf population.
Prior to 3434 of the Second Age, Lothlorien had been at peace for many years. Few outsiders even knew of its existence. Among those few were several Sindarin and Silvan Elves including Galadriel and Celeborn, who are believed to have visited sometime after the fall of Eregion in 1697. However, in 3434, Gil-galad of the Noldor summoned aid from the Elves of Lothlorien. The forces of men and Elves were waging war against the growing threat of Sauron. This war would be remembered as the War of the Last Alliance.
Amdir led a an army of Lothlorien to meet the enemy at the Black Gate. Though Amdir's force was large, it was poorly armed. Sauron's forces easily defeated Amdir's, driving them into the marshland nearby where more than half of them died or were killed. Amdir himself was slain. In 3441, Sauron was defeated by Isildur, King of Gondor and Arnor. Amdir's son Amroth became King of Lothlorien the war.
