Artamir
Son of King Ondoher of Gondor. Artamir had a younger brother named Faramir and a younger sister named Firiel. Artamir's date of birth is not known, but it was sometime before year 1896 of the Third Age, which was the year of the birth of his younger sister. Being the first son born to Ondoher, Artamir was his heir to the throne.
In 1944 of the Third Age, Gondor was attacked by men from Rhun known as the Wainriders. These men were extremely hostile and fierce. Artamir marched to war against them with his father, who led the Northern Army of Gondor. Faramir was ordered to stay behind as regent, but he rode to war in secret.
The Northern Army planned to engage the enemy in battle on the plains of Dagorlad, but as they neared the Black Gate, the Wainriders launched a surprise attack on the Northern Army. As it turned out, the Wainriders had hidden themselves in the Ash Mountains. The Northern Army was overwhelmed by the attack, as they were completely unprepared and outnumbered.
Artamir and his father Ondoher, who stood side by side on the battlefield, were both slain rather quickly. Their bodies were not found. Faramir, too, was slain, and the kingship was passed to Ondoher's distant relative Earnil II, who had led the Southern Army.
