Boldog
Orc-captain living during the First Age. Boldog was an Orc under the service of Morgoth. He led a force from Angband to attack Doriath and capture the Elf-maiden Luthien. He failed, and was killed during the raid.
Names & Meanings
Boldog may have been a title rather than a name; there is some speculation among Tolkien fans that Boldogs were actually Maia who disguised themselves as Orcs-captains and served either Morgoth or Sauron. This theory developed because originally there was more than one Orc in the First Age with the name Boldog. No Orcs named Boldog other than the Boldog who raided Doraith made it into Tolkien's published legendarium.
