Isumbras Took I
First Took to be named Thain of the Shire. Isumbras was named thirteenth Thain of the Shire in 2340 of the Third Age. This was after the Oldbucks, who were the previous Thains, moved to Buckland and were having troubles governing their own family. They later called themselves the Brandybucks, for they lived in Buckland along the Brandywine River. The title of Thain was passed to Isumbras Took I, and the title remained in the Took family. Isumbras Took's death date is not known. The name of Isumbras's successor is also unknown.
