Borin
Ancestor of Gimli of the line of Durin. Borin was born in 2450 of the Third Age. He was the son of Nain II, the King of Durin's Folk. Borin had an older brother named Dain I who would become King of Durin's Folk. Borin's son's name was Farin. Their family were among a population of Dwarves living in the Grey Mountains.
In 2589, Dain I was killed by a Cold-drake, a dragon of the North, in the Northern Waste. Borin and his son Farin and nephew Thror left their home in the Grey Mountains and headed for the Lonely Mountain, where Borin died in 2711.
