Bucca of the Marish
Earliest descendant of the Brandybuck family; first Thain to rule the Shire in replacement of the King of Arnor. Bucca was a Hobbit who came from a region called the Marish, which was located west of the Brandywine River. After the loss of a King of the North-kingdom of Arnor, Bucca became Thain of the Shire in 1979 of the Third Age. From Bucca came many generations of Oldbucks and, in turn, Brandybucks.
Bucca's date of death is not known. At some point after Bucca's death, the title of Thain was passed to the Took family.
