Dís
Sister of Thorin Oakenshield. Dis was the only female Dwarf whose name was recorded. She was born in 2760 of the Third Age as the daughter of Thrain II and the younger sister of Thorin and Frerin. The family lived in the Lonely Mountain and were descended from Durin I. In 2770, when Dis was only ten years old, a dragon called Smaug descended upon the Lonely Mountain. Many Dwarves were killed, but Dis, Thorin Oakenshield, Thrain II, and Frerin all escaped. Dis's unknown mother may have also escaped. Their family wandered for a long period of time, possibly over one hundred years, until they settled in the Blue Mountains. Dis had two sons, Fili and Kili, who were later chosen as members of Thorin and Company, a company of Dwarves who reclaimed the Lonely Mountain from Smaug. Dis's death date remains unknown.
