Holman Greenhand
Gardener at Bag End at the time of the quest of Erebor. Holman Greenhand was born in 2892 of the Third Age. Holman was the son of Halfred Greenhand. Holman's grandfather was Holman the Greenhanded.
Holman tended to the gardens at Bag End, the home of Bilbo Baggins of Hobbiton. Holman truly admired Bilbo, but he noted that Bilbo often spoke to strange outsiders and took and interest in folk who lived outside the borders of the Shire. On April 5, 2941, Bilbo told Holman that he was off to meet some Elves because the following day was the Elves' New Year. Gandalf arrived a few days later, and Holman reported to him where Bilbo had gone. Gandalf was delighted that Bilbo appeared to be indicating an adventurous spirit, a sign that he would make a great member of Thorin and Company's quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug.
Bilbo was assumed dead during his quest with Thorin Oakenshield and Company, but Holman told Bilbo's other gardener Hamfast Gamgee to keep Bilbo's garden safe. Hamfast later became chief gardener at Bag End.
It is unknown what became of Holman after Hamfast took over as chief gardener at Bag End.
