Glóin (I)
Born in 2136 of the Third Age to King Thorin I of Durin's Folk, Gloin I was of the Line of Durin. His father died in 2289, and Gloin became King. He ruled until his death in 2385. During Gloin's reign, the Dwarves moved from the Lonely Mountain to the Grey Mountains. Gloin was succeeded as King by his son Oin I.
Names & Meanings
The name Glóin comes from Glói, which is the Old Norse word for "glow." Gloin is a dwarf who appears in an Old Norse poem called Voluspa. Gloin was also the name of the father of Gimli.
