Haleth
First son of King Helm Hammerhand of Rohan. Haleth was the elder brother of Hama and a sister. Haleth would have been the heir to the throne of Rohan if it had not been for a fateful invasion.
In year 2758 of the Third Age, the Dunlendings invaded Rohan. Wulf of Dunland led a force to attack Edoras. Haleth was positioned at Edoras and tried to defend it from the invaders, but he was killed at the gates of Meduseld, thus ending the first line of kings directly descended from Eorl the Young.
Haleth's cousin Frealaf was able to reclaim Edoras and drive out the invasion, later to claim the throne of Rohan.

Names & Meanings
Haleth comes from the Old English word hæleþ, translating as "fighter." In the First Age, there was a woman of the Edain named Haleth, but her name meant something different in the language of her people. In Peter Jackson's film version of The Lord of the Rings, Hama the Dorrward had a son name Haleth who fought in the Battle of Helm's Deep.
