Ohtar
Esquire for Isildur. In year 2 of the Third Age, Isildur and his sons were traveling through to Arnor along with a company of two-hundred knights that included Ohtar. On October 4, the company was in Gladden Fields when they were attacked by Orcs from the Misty Mountains who were drawn to the power of the One Ring which Isildur bore. Ohtar tried to help fight off the attack, but the company was ambushed by Orcs. Ohtar and Estelmo, esquire of Isildur's eldest son Elendur, were the only survivors. However, Ohtar was given the shards of Narsil by Isildur himself before he perished.
Ohtar and Estelmo were rescued by Wood-elves. Ohtar's fellow esquire Estelmo had overheard Elendur telling Isildur that he must take the One Ring far away, but with luck against them it was lost in the Anduin.
Ohtar fled to Rivendell where he gave the shards of Narsil to Isildur's son Valandil.

Names & Meanings
Ohtar was a rank in the military. The name literally translates from Quenya as "warrior." It is possible that the name Ohtar was not the real name for this character, but rather a title that he was referred to by those of higher rank. If this was the case, Ohtar's real name is unknown.
