Valandil
Third King of Arnor after Isildur, son of Elendil. Valandil was the youngest son of Isilur's four sons. Valandil had three older brothers: Elendur, Aratan, and Ciryon. Valandil was born in Rivendell in year 3430 of the Second Age. While his grandfather, father, and brothers all marched to war against Sauron in the War of the Last Alliance, Valandil remained in Rivendell with his mother.
As it turned out, Isildur defeated Sauron. Isildur and his sons Elendur, Aratan, and Ciryon were traveling through the Gladden Fields in year 2 of the Third Age when they were all killed by Orcs from the Misty Mountains who were drawn to the power of the One Ring.
When the time came to identify the successor of the throne of Gondor and Arnor, Valandil claimed only the throne of Arnor. Gondor was ruled by King Anarion, who was the brother of Isildur. So thus it was that Gondor and Arnor were separated, and they remained separate until year 3019 of the Third Age.
Valandil ruled Arnor from Annuminas, the new capital city. He was given a forged copy of the Elendilmir, for the original had been lost when Elendil was killed.
Valandil ruled until his death in year 249 of the Third Age. He was succeeded by his son Eldacar as king.
