Rian
Mother of Steward Denethor I of Gondor. Rian was the daughter of Barahir, former Steward of Gondor. She was born around the year 2328 of the Third Age.
Rian had a brother named Dior, who inherited the Stewardship from his father in 2412. Since Dior had no known children and therefore no heir, Rian's son Denethor I became Steward in 2435, after the death of his uncle.

The name Rían may be derived from ríg-anna, meaning "crown-gift." Rian was very likely named after the daughter of Belegund of the First Age.
