Aragost
Born in the year 2431 of the Third Age, Aragost became the eighth Chieftain of the Dunedain. Aragost was the son of Chieftain Arahad I.
As a young person, Aragost lived with Elrond in Rivendell. In 2523, Arahad I died and Aragost became Chieftain. He ruled until his own death in 2588, and was then succeeded by his son Aravorn as Chieftain.

Names & Meanings
Aragost may translate as the Sindarin phrase for "dreadful leader" from ara meaning "royalty, king" and gost meaning "dread." Though Tolkien never said anything about what kind of ruler Aragost was, his name may hint that he was not a positive one. Still, his name alone is not enough to confirm this.
