Derufin

Ranger of Gondor during the War of the Ring. Derufin was the tall son of Duilhir and the brother of Duilin. Derufin and his brother were archers of the Blackroot Vale.
During the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in March of 3019 of the Third Age, Derufin led an army of Gondorian soldiers to destroy the forces of attacking Haradrim, who were riding on great beasts called Oliphaunts.
Derufin led his force too close to the great Oliphaunts because he wanted to shoot their eyes. Derufin and his company were trampled, along with his brother Duilin.

Names & Meanings
The meaning of the name Derufin is unknown. It may be derived from der meaning "man," and rúnya meaning "red," but this cannot be certain. Also, fin means "hair" in Quenya and rhufen means "east."
