Dírhael
Andrew McDonald as Dirhael in 'Born of Hope'
Father of Gilraen; grandfather of Aragorn. Dirhael was married to Ivorwen. He was born sometime in the late Third Age. Both Dirhael and his wife had the gift of foresight. The couple lived in a hidden settlement in Eriador.
Dirhael's daughter Gilraen was born in year 2907 of the Third Age. In 2929, Arathorn II, the son of the Chieftain of the Dunedain, begged Dirhael for Gilraen's hand in marriage. Dirhael thought that Gilraen was too young, and he foresaw Arathorn's death. But Ivorwen convinced him that the marriage of Gilraen to Isildur's heir gave hope to the Dunedain as a people. Arathorn and Gilraen were married in 2929 and had a son named Aragorn, who became High King of the Reunited Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor. However, Dirhael's prediction was proven correct when Arathorn was killed in 2933.
