Ecthelion I
Ecthelion I became the seventeenth ruling-Steward of Gondor. He was born in the year 2600 of the Third Age as the son of Orodreth. Ecthelion I became Steward upon his father's death in 2685.
Ecthelion rebuilt the White Tower of Minas Tirith and renamed it the Tower of Ecthelion. He died in 2698, directly after the tower's completion. Ecthelion had no heir, so when he died his aunt Morwen's grandson Egalmoth became Steward.

Names & Meanings
Ecthelion is likely of Sindarin origin. It comes from the words ecthel meaning "spear" and -ion, a common masculine suffix. Ecthelion was the first Steward of that name.
