Egalmoth
Egalmoth became the eighteenth ruling-Steward of Gondor. He was born in the year 2626 of the Third Age. Egalmoth was the grandson of Morwen, sister of the Steward Orodreth. Egalmoth succeeded Orodreth's son Ecthelion I, who had no children. Egalmoth became Steward when Ecthelion died in 2984.
In 2710, King Deor of Rohan requested aid from Egalmoth concerning men of Dunland who had invaded Isengard, a fortress on the border of Gondor and Rohan. At the time, Egalmoth could not spare a force to send to Rohan, so Isengard remained occupied by the Dunlendings.
Egalmoth died in year 2743. His son Beren became Steward.

Names & Meanings
Egalmoth means something like "pointed helm-crest." It comes from the Quenya word Aegamloth. The part eg or êg means "thorn," referenced by the "point," and the part almoth comes from amloth, which could be derived from ambalotse, translating as "uprising flower."
