Gorbadoc Brandybuck
Son of Marmadoc Brandybuck, the Master of Buckland; grandfather of Frodo Baggins. Gorbadoc Brandybuck was born in 2860 of the Third Age. He was the son of Marmadoc Brandybuck and Adaldrida Bolger Brandybuck. Gorbadoc had a younger brother named Orgulas.
In 2910, Marmadoc died and Gorbadoc became the Master of Buckland. He served great feasts at his home in Brandy Hall, and was nicknamed "broadbelt." He was soon married to Mirabella Took and had seven children. They were named Rorimac (grandfather of Merry Brandybuck), Amaranth, Saradas, Dodinas, Asphodel, Dinodas, and Primula (mother of Frodo Baggins). Gorbadoc died around the year 2963, although contradicting sources suggest that he was alive in 2980. After his death, Gorbadoc was succeeded by his son Rorimac as Master of Buckland.
Notice: In the Brandybuck Family Tree provided in Appendix C of The Lord of the Rings, Gorbadoc's death date is given as 2963, but in The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring: "A Long-Expected Party," page 31, it says that Gorbadoc was visited by Primula and Drogo Baggins before their drowning in the Brandywine River in 2980, suggesting that he was still alive and living in Brandy Hall.
