Great Goblin
The Great Goblin by John Howe
Leader among the Orcs of the Misty Mountains. The Great Goblin was a very large and terrifying Orc with a large and hideous head. He was the leader of Goblin-town, a dwelling of the Orcs near the High Pass. The Great Goblin and his Orcs enjoyed eating travelers who accidentally tried to pass through the Front Porch, the secret passage that led to Goblin-town.
In the summer of 2941 of the Third Age, Thorin and his company of Dwarves and the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins were traveling through the Misty Mountains. They were captured in the Front Porch and brought to the Great Goblin by Mountain Orcs. The Great Goblin was seated like a king upon a large stone, and he was surrounded by body guards. The Great Goblin wanted to know what business Thorin and Company had in the mountains. The Great Goblin was about to kill them, when Gandalf the Grey stormed in and killed the Great Goblin. The leader of the Orcs of the Misty Mountains, Bolg, was disgraced to learn that the Great Goblin was killed. This inspired a new rage inside of Bolg.
