Tarondor
Tarondor was the twenty-seventh King of Gondor born in year 1577 of the Third Age. His father was Minastan, who was the son of King Minardil. Tarondor's uncle was Telemnar, who was also a king of Gondor.
In 1636, just two years after the crowning of King Telemanar, the Great Plague hit Gondor and the entire royal family died. Tarondor was Telemnar's last living relative, so he took the throne. His Steward was Hurin of Emyn Arnen, who had operated as Steward for both Telemnar and Minardil.
Gondor was devastated by the plague. Osgiliath was hit the hardest and thousands of lives were lost. The survivors in Osgiliath relocated to Ithilien to escape further devastation. Tarondor moved Gondor's capital city to Minas Anor. He replanted the White Tree in the Citadel there, which had died during the plague.
Because of the plague, Gondor could not defend its border with Mordor. It was later speculated that Sauron sent the plague to weaken Gondor so he could reclaim his realm in Mordor.
Tarondor was the longest reigning king. He ruled 162 years. He died in year 1798 and was succeeded as king by his son Telumehtar, who had been born in 1632.
