Thráin I
King of Durin's Folk who abandoned Khazad-dum. Thrain I was born in 1934 of the Third Age. His father was King Nain I. Thrain I lived in Khazad-dum under the Misty Mountains. His grandfather King Durin VI had been killed by the Balrog in 1980. Nain was crowned King after Durin VI's death, but Nain's rule lasted only one year. In 1981, Nain I wass killed by the Balrog and Thrain was crowned King of Durin's Folk. Thrain led his people out of Khazad-dum in 1999 and they settled the Lonely Mountain. They found the Arkenstone deep inside. Thrain I had a son named Thorin I. Thrain I died in 2190 and was succeeded by his son Thorin I as King.
Names & Meanings
Thrain is a dwarf seen in the Old Norse poem Voluspa, his name meaning "craver." There was a later King of Durin's Folk named Thrain.
