Ulfang
Traitorous Easterling chieftain who betray the Elves to fight for Morgoth. Ulfang was born around the year 400 of the First Age. He had three sons: Uldor, Ulfast, and Ulwarth. Ulfang's people came from the far East and wandered into Beleriand in 463. Another tribe of Easterlings led by Bor arrived around the same time.
It is unknown when Ulfang officially became a servant of Morgoth. Some speculated that he was already in Morgoth's service when he led his people into Beleriand. Whether this was true or not is not known.
When the Elves learned of Easterlings entering Beleriand, they welcomed the newcomers. The Elves needed more allies in their fight against Morgoth. Ulfang made an alliance with an Elf named Caranthir, one of the sons of Feanor. In 468, Ulfang joined the Union of Maedhros, an alliance of men and Elves who worked together to oppose Morgoth. The other Easterling chief Bor also joined the Union of Maedhros. Maedhros trained his allies for a war against Morgoth, and Ulfang brought more of his men from the East.
Ulfang died around 470, and the great battle against Morgoth did not occur until 472. But before his death, Ulfang made a deal with Morgoth that he would betray the Elves as long as Morgoth gave him valuable land in Beleriand. Ulfang's sons carried out his evil will during the battle, and they were able to win it for Morgoth though it cost them their lives.

Names & Meanings
The name Ulfang means "horrible beard" in Sindarin from ulug meaning "horrible" and fang meaning "beard." This name was probably given to him by the Elves after he betray them in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. Ulfang was also known as Ulfang the Black.
