Ulwarth
Traitorous Easterling who betray the Elves in favor of Morgoth. Ulwarth was born around 430 of the First Age. He was the youngest son of Ulfang, the chief of a tribe of Easterlings who ventured into Beleriand. Ulwarth had two older brothers named Uldor and Ulfast.
Ulfang led his people from the far East into Beleriand in 463. It was later speculated that Ulfang was already in the service of Morgoth, but this is not confirmed. Another tribe led by Bor migrated into Beleriand around the same time.
The Elves welcomed the Easterlings into Beleriand because they needed allies in their fight against Morgoth. Ulfang allied himself with the Elf Caranthir, one of the sons of Feanor. In 468, Ulfang and his sons joined the Union of Maedhros, a group of Elves and their allies committed to the opposition Morgoth. There were many men in the Union of Maedhros including men from all three Houses of the Edain as well as Bor and his followers.
At some point before his death in circa 470, Ulfang made an alliance with Morgoth. Only Ulfang and his sons were aware of this alliance, but Ulfang called for more men from his home in the East. Morgoth promised Ulfang land and resources in Beleriand.
Though Ulfang died in 470, Ulwarth and his brothers carried out their father's plans to join with Morgoth. In 472, a great battle between the allies of the Noldor and the forces of Morgoth took place. The Easterlings were positioned in the eastern army led by Maedhros. The eastern army was composed of Noldorin Elves and Easterlings while the western army was composed of Elves, Edain, Dwarves, and Druedain. The eastern army was told to lead Morgoth's forces to Anfauglith where the western army would join them in the fight, surprising Morgoth's forces from both sides. But Ulwarth's brother Uldor lied to the eastern army and claimed that there was a renewed assault from Angband that they needed to hold back. Uldor then called for reinforcements from the western army, who were thus inopportunely revealed to the enemy.
Though Maedhros made a great stand on the battlefield with his army, this was only temporary. Ulwarth and his brothers began by fighting the forces of Morgoth, but switched sides, confusing the Elves and loyal Easterlings in their army. Then the unfaithful Easterlings joined the forces of Morgoth and fought until the battle was won for the enemy.
Uldor was killed by Maglor while Ulfast and Ulwarth were killed by the sons of Bor, who remained faithful to the Elves to the very last. However, Ulwarth's people plundered Hithlum after his death and wreaked havoc for the men of Dor-lomin.

Names & Meanings
The name Ulwarth can be derived from the Sindarin ulug meaning "horrible" and warth from gwarth meaning "traitor, betrayer." This name was probably given to him by the Elves after he betray them.
