Beregond, Steward of Gondor
The twentieth ruling-Steward of Gondor, Beregond was born in the year 2700 of the Third Age. He was the son of the Steward Beren. In 2758, before Beregond became Steward, an army of Haradrim and men from Umbar raided Gondor's coasts. Beregond headed Gondor's defenses and fought off the invaders and sent aid to Rohan, which was also attacked. When Beren died in 2763, Beregond became Steward. Beregond ruled until his death in year 2811 and his son Belecthor II became Steward.
Names & Meanings
Beregond likely means "valiant stone" in Quenya from ber meaning "valiant" and gond meaning "stone." There was also a later guard of the citadel named Beregond.
