Bergil
Bergil as a boy by Anke-Katrin Eissmann
Bergil was the son of Beregond. He was born in the year 3009 of the Third Age. He had a younger brother named Borlas. Bergil's family lived in Minas Tirith and Beregond worked as a Guard of the Citadel. His grandmother lived in Lossarnach, and he visited her each spring.
Bergil was ten years of age and five feet in 3019, the time of the War of the Ring. During the Battle of Pelennor Fields, most of the women and children evacuated to the southern provinces of Gondor. Bergil was one of several boys to stay behind in Minas Tirith. Bergil and the other boys stayed at the Old Guesthouse on Lampwrights' Street. Bergil met Pippin Took on March 9, 3019, and together they ran to the Great Gates to watch the armies from outer Gondor coming to help defend.
On March 15 during the battle, Bergil was put to work assisting the nurses at the Houses of Healing. He was positioned on the fourth level of Minas Tirith where he ran into Pippin, who was carrying his friend Merry Brandybuck into the Houses.
Bergil's ultimate fate is unknown. It can be assumed that he accompanied his father to live in Ithilien after the War of the Ring.
