Thengel
Sixteenth King of Rohan. Thengel was born in the year 2905 of the Third Age. He was the son of King Fengel.
Fengel was a greedy and argumentative man. Thengel fought a great deal with his father, so much that he left Rohan to live with his mother's family in Gondor. There, he met Morwen Steelsheen of Lossarnach. They were married in 2943.
In total, Morwen would bare Thengel five children. Their third child and only son was Theoden, born in 2948. Their youngest child was Theodwyn, born in 2963. Theodwyn would eventually come to mother Eomer and Eowyn.
Fengel died in 2953 and Thengel was called to return to Rohan. Thengel did so and he was crowned king. During his reign, Sindarin and Westron became the official languages of the House of Rohan, and Rohirric began to fall out of use.
During Thengel's reign, a northern ranger calling himself Thorongil came to his service and rode with him for some years. Meanwhile, Saruman closed off Isengard and began to prepare it for war.
Thengel ruled until his death in 2980 and was succeeded by his son Theoden as king.
