Bob
Caretaker of the Horses and Ponies at the Prancing Pony. Bob was a Hobbit who served Barliman Butterbur of Bree. Bob worked in the stables as an ostler. Nob, another Hobbit-servant, was friendly with Bob. Bob owned a black cat who stayed at the inn.
In 3018, Meriadoc Brandybuck was in Bree and Bob took care of his five ponies: Sharp-ears, Swish-tail, Bumpkin, Wise-nose, and White-socks. The Nazgul released the ponies to delay the Hobbits' departure. Bob found Bill Ferny's pony, Bill, and offered that the Hobbits purchase him. Barliman Butterbur purchased the pony for Sam Gamgee. Bob gave apples to Sam when Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry finally left Bree. Bob stayed with his family at night during the War of the Ring, but he continued to work at the Prancing Pony.
