Éothain
Eothain in the New Line film
Eothain was a rider of Rohan at the time of the War of the Ring. He was a member of Eomer's eored.
In February of 3019 of the Third Age, Eomer's eored slew a band of Uruk-Hai who held Merry Brandybuck and Peregrin Took captive on the outskirts of Fangorn Forest.
On February 30, Eomer's eored came across Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli in the Mark. Eothain referred to the three's talk of Hobbits as "child stories." He also told Eomer that the riders should bind the mysterious elf, man, and dwarf's hands and set these intruders before King Theoden. Eomer payed little attention to this idea. He knew the three travellers' hearts to be in good faith, so he let them roam freely across Rohan.
