Haldir
Lord of the House of Haleth. Haldir was born in 414 of the First Age. He was the son of Halmir. Haldir was the elder brother of Hundar, Hareth, and Hiril. The family lived in the Forest of Brethil.
In 436, Haldir married Gloredhel at one of his father's feasts. They had a son named Handir born in 441. During their youth, Haldir also raised his nephews Huor and Hurin, the sons of Galdor and Hareth.
Haldir's father Halmir faced the growing threat caused by Morgoth. In 468, he joined the Union of Maedhros to find a way to oppose Morgoth. Haldir became the Lord of the House of Haleth after his father was killed in 471.
In 472, the tensions that existed between the immense power of Morgoth and the Elves erupted in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. Haldir led a large force of men from the House of Haleth and the Forest of Brethil, and they were joined by Edain of the people of Hurin led by Hurin and Huor. Edain fought alongside Elves of Doriath and the Noldor as well as men from Rhun called Easterlings led by Bor and also Dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost. Haldir led the men of Haleth who fought in the western army, which was commanded by Fingon, High King of the Noldor.
The result of the Battle of Unnumbered Tears did not favor the Union of Maedhros. During an attempt to attack Morgoth's fortress of Angband, the western army was driven back and Haldir, Hundar, and many other men of Haleth were killed. Ultimately, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears resulted in a massive defeat for the Elves and men of the west.
Haldir's son Handir succeeded him as Lord of the House of Haleth after his father's death. Haldir's wife Gloredhel died of grief soon after the death of her beloved husband.
