Old Noakes
William Johnson as Old Noakes in the New Line film
Regular at the Ivy Bush. Old Noakes was an old Hobbit of the Shire who lived in Bywater. He was a regular at an inn called the Ivy Bush in the village of Hobbiton. At the Ivy Bush, bear and ale were served, and Hobbits could smoke pipe-weed. Old Noakes was gossiping with Hamfast "Gaffer" Gamgee, Daddy Twofoot, and Sandyman the Miller before Bilbo Baggins's birthday party on September 22, 3001 of the Third Age. Old Noakes said that Drogo Baggins, the father of Frodo Baggins, and Primula Brandybuck, the mother of Frodo, drowned because Drogo was so fat that he sank their boat. Old Noakes also asked why a Baggins would look for a spouse in Buckland, where the Brandybucks lived. Old Noakes thought these folk were queer because they lived near the Old Forest.
