Fredegar Bolger
Norman Cates as Fatty Bolger - Decipher Card
Son of Odovacar Bolger; loyal friend of Frodo Baggins who was afraid to leave the Shire. Fredegar Boldger was born in 2980 of the Third Age. He was the son of Odovacar and Rosamunda Bolger. Fredegar had a sister named Estella, who married Merry Brandybuck. Fredegar was nicknamed "Fatty," mostly because of his rotund figure and build. Fatty and his family lived in Budgeford in Bridgefields in the Eastfarthing of the Shire.
In 3001, Fatty and his family attended Bilbo's Farewell Party held in Hobbiton on September 22.
In 3018 of the Third Age, Fatty prepared a house in Crickhollow for Frodo to purchase. Fatty did not leave the Shire with Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin, for he had no desire to go on a journey. His was told to make Frodo's home in Crickhollow look as though Frodo were still living there.
On the night of September 30, 3018, the house was attacked by three Nazgul including Khamul. When Fatty saw the Nazgul approaching, he ran out the back door to the closest house, which may have been over a mile away. He told of the Nazgul, and the Horn of Buckland was blown as a symbol for danger. The sound of the horn caused the Nazgul to evacuate from the Shire.
During Saruman's invasion of the Shire in the final days of the War of the Ring, Fatty led a group of rebels from the Brockenbores in the Hills of Scary to attack the Ruffian invaders. Fatty was imprisoned in the Lockholes by Saruman's servants. Frodo released Fatty after the Battle of Bywater in November of 3019, but Fatty was too weak to walk.
It is unknown what became of Fatty after the War of the Ring.
