Paladin Took II
Thain of the Shire, father of Peregrin (Pippin) Took. Paladin Took was born in 2933 of the Third Age. He was the son of Adalgrim Took. Paladin Took had a younger sister named Esmeralda who was the mother of Meriadoc Brandybuck. Paladin married Eglantine Banks and they had four children: Pearl, Pimpernel, Pervinca, and Pippin. In 3001, the family went to Bilbo's Farewell Party held on September 22.
In 3015, Thain Ferumbras Took III died and had no children. Paladin was his closest male relation, so he was named Thain. Paladin served out his term well. During the War of the Ring, the Shire was invaded by Saruman the White, his slave Grima Wormtongue, and his servants the Ruffians. The Ruffians were killed often by the Tooks, for they defended themselves well. Pippin returned to the Shire in November of 3019 after his quest. He raised an army of Tookland to defend themselves, as well as several more from the Great Smials. They were led to the Battle of Bywater, which drove all enemies out of the Shire forever. Paladin Took II attended the wedding of Pippin and Diamond of Long Cleeve. Paladin had a grandson, Faramir Took, son of Pippin.
Paladin Took II died in year 13 of the Fourth Age and Pippin became Thain.
