Rosie Cotton Gamgee
Rosie Cotton played by Sarah Mcloed in the New Line film
Rose Cotton, also known as Rosie Cotton, was born in the year 2984 of the Third Age to Tolman Cotton and Lily Brown Cotton. Rosie Cotton would become the wife of Samwise Gamgee, a legendary Hobbit who would be instrumental in the destruction of the One Ring and ultimately the downfall of Sauron. Rosie Cotton had four brothers name Tolman (called Tom), Wilcome (called Jolly), Bowman (called Nick), and Carl (called Nibs). Rosie lived in Bywater with her family, and Rosie's father Tolman owned a farm at the end of South Lane.
Rosie and her brothers were friends with Sam Gamgee, and often swam with him in the Bywater Pool. The Cottons and the Gamgees had always gotten along.
When Sam left the Shire in 3018 with Frodo Baggins, Pippin Took, and Merry Brandybuck, many Hobbits thought the four of them had died. Rosie, however, believed in Sam, and she hoped that he was alive. She predicted that Sam would return in the Spring of 3019, and she scolded him when he finally returned in November of 3019.
While Sam and his companions were gone, an army of Ruffian men in league with Saruman invaded the Shire with the permission of Lotho Sackville-Baggins. Rosie was protected by her father, mother, and brothers. When the Sam and his companions returned, they raised an army of Hobbits to defeat the Ruffians and drive them out of the Shire in a conflict known as the Battle of Bywater. Rosie's brothers and father all had some part to play in the events of this battle.
Rosie Cotton married Samwise Gamgee and they had thirteen children: Elanor Gamgee, Frodo Gardener, Rose, Merry, Pippin, Goldilocks, Hamfast, Daisy, Primrose, Bilbo, Ruby, Robin, and Tolman. The family of fifteen moved to Bag End after Bilbo and Frodo left Middle-Earth. Samwise became the Mayor of Michel Delving. Sam and Rosie visited Gondor once, then settled down for the rest of their days. Rose died in year 61 of the Fourth Age, and Sam left Middle-Earth and passed over the Sea to the Undying Lands to see Frodo one last time.
